Dr. Waqar is originally from Waco, Texas. He earned his Bachelor of Science from Baylor University and his Doctorate in Optometry from the University of Houston College of Optometry. He was an active member of Beta Sigma Kappa International Optometric Honor Society and graduated Magna Cum Laude. During his training, he completed several rigorous internships. First he was selected for the Myopia Control specialty clinic rotation where he learned to fit "Ortho-K" lenses and utilize Atropine eye drops to treat children and teenagers with progressive myopia. He went on to train with Plaza Vision Center in Dallas where he treated ocular surface disease with the most advanced scleral and gas permeable contact lens designs, while also treating severe dry eye disease. Dr Waqar finished his last internship in Dallas at a non-profit Community Clinic for low income patients where he treated patients with advanced ocular disease conditions ranging from diabetic retinopathy to glaucoma.
Having obtained his doctoral education, Dr. Waqar pursued further specialty training via a competitively sought after residency position in Ocular Disease and Primary Care at Nova Southeastern University College of Optometry in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. There he honed his skills by practicing full-scope optometric care including disease management, specialty contact lens fittings and myopia control in children. He also trained with accomplished ophthalmologists in specialties such as refractive and cataract surgery, oculoplastic surgery, retinal procedures, ocular oncology and neuro-ophthalmology.
Dr. Waqar is licensed to practice Optometry in the State of Texas as a Therapeutic Optometrist and Glaucoma Specialist. He specializes in Family Eye Care, Contact Lenses, Dry Eyes, Myopia Control, Ocular Disease, and Cataract/LASIK Consultations. He maintains professional memberships in the American Optometrist Association, the Texas Optometric Association, and the Central Texas Optometric Society. Lastly Dr. Waqar is currently pursuing his fellowship training with the American Academy of Optometry.
